Do I need to learn Music Theory?
A certain amount of Music Theory is desirable (but not essential) and will most definitely unlock the guitar’s potential and give you creative tools to enhance your playing. It doesn’t need to be intimidating though and a little goes a long way!
Do I need to be able to read music?
In a word, no. Few guitarists are actually able to read music and most non-professionals use a very simple system called “Tablature,” the basics of which can be taught in minutes.
What equipment do I need to bring to lessons?
You just need to bring your guitar, pick, tuner, capo and lesson material. I have an amplifier set up for students.
How do I get to you?
There is plenty of parking available on my street (Stamford Park Road) if you are driving. It is residents permit parking but I will give you a coupon for each lesson. If you are coming by public transport then Altrincham Interchange (trains, trams and buses) is a 5 minute walk away.
Do I need to have a lesson every week?
An hour a week is ideal for the best progress but I am flexible and lessons can be arranged around your schedule and budget.
Are there any other costs involved?
No, all lesson materials are included in the price. If you wish to work towards the Rockschool and Trinity grades then there are extra costs involved with those i.e. exam fees, lesson materials.
Do you offer any other services?
Yes, I do basic guitar setups starting from £28 with a change of strings included. The following steps are performed : check nut slots and lubricate, set bridge height, tremolo (if applicable), string action and pickup height to owner’s specification, set intonation, clean and polish fretboard (apply lemon oil if rosewood, ebony, pau ferro etc.), check and tighten all screws and clean and polish.
